Privacy Policy
Last updated 14 August 2026
This policy explains what personal information TailGo collects when you use our website or app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
TailGo operates in Canada. We handle personal information under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the privacy laws of the province you live in, including Quebec's Law 25 if you are in Quebec.
What we collect from you
Your account. Your name, email address, phone number, and profile photo if you add one. We record whether your phone number has been verified, your language and time zone, and when you last signed in.
Your pets. This is the most detailed information we hold, because a sitter needs it to look after an animal properly: name, species, breed, size, weight, date of birth, and photos, plus microchip number, vaccination status, medical conditions, allergies, medication, your vet's name, phone and address, temperament and behaviour around other animals, children and people, feeding and exercise routines, and any insurance details you add.
Sitter profiles. If you offer care, we also hold your bio, experience, the city and area you work in, the coordinates you set for your map position, your service radius, the services and prices you offer, and the pets you accept.
Verification documents. If you apply to be a verified sitter, we collect an image of a government identity document and a selfie so we can confirm you are who you say you are.
Bookings and messages. The dates, services, addresses and prices of your bookings, the messages you exchange with the other person, the photo and text updates sitters send during a service, reviews you write, and any support requests you open along with our replies.
Payments. The amount, date and status of each payment, refund and payout. We do not receive or store your card number: Stripe handles the card and we keep only the identifier that links your account to theirs.
What we collect while you use TailGo
Location during a walk. When a sitter starts a dog walking session, the app records the route so the owner can follow it: precise coordinates, accuracy, altitude, speed and direction, the type of movement detected, the distance covered, and the device's battery level and whether it is charging. The battery readings are there so an interrupted route can be explained rather than looking like the sitter stopped.
Your general area. With your permission, your browser or device can tell us roughly where you are so we can show sitters nearby. You can refuse, and search by city instead.
Device and usage. Basic technical information such as your IP address, browser or device type, and the pages you open, which we use to keep the service working and secure. If you turn on push notifications, we store the token your device needs to receive them.
Location tracking only runs while a walk is in progress. It is not collected in the background, and it is not collected at all if you are not on a walk booking.
Why we use it
- To run the service: creating your account, matching owners with sitters nearby, taking bookings, and passing on what a sitter needs to know about your pet.
- To take payments and pay sitters out.
- To let you and the other person talk, and to keep a record of what was agreed if there is a disagreement later.
- To keep people and animals safe: verifying identity, reviewing reports of misuse, and investigating disputes.
- To send you booking confirmations, service updates and security notices. Marketing emails are separate and you can turn them off.
- To meet legal obligations, including tax and accounting requirements.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Consent
We collect and use your information with your consent, which you give by creating an account and using TailGo. Some things ask separately: location, push notifications and access to your photos are only collected if you allow them.
You can withdraw consent at any time. For optional things such as location or marketing email, change the setting. For anything else, withdrawing consent generally means closing your account, because we cannot arrange care for an animal without knowing about the animal.
Who we share it with
The other person in a booking. When a booking is confirmed, the sitter sees what they need in order to provide care, including your pet's details and the address for the service. Owners see the sitter's profile and reviews. Before a booking is confirmed, only the public part of a profile is visible.
Companies that run parts of the service for us. We use Supabase for accounts and file storage, Stripe for payments, SendGrid for email, and Expo and Google for push notifications and maps. They may only use your information to do the job we hired them for.
When the law requires it, or when we believe in good faith that sharing is necessary to prevent harm to a person or an animal, to investigate fraud, or to protect our legal rights.
If the business changes hands. If TailGo is sold or merged, your information may transfer with it. We would tell you before that happened.
Where your information is kept
Some of the companies above store and process data outside Canada, including in the United States. That means your information can be subject to the laws of the country it is held in, and courts or authorities there may be able to require access to it under their own laws.
We require these companies by contract to protect your information to a comparable standard, but we cannot promise a foreign government will never gain access to it. If that is not acceptable to you, please do not use TailGo.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. When you close it, we delete or anonymise your personal information except where we have to keep it: payment and tax records have to be retained for the period Canadian law requires, and we keep enough about a dispute or safety report to defend a claim or to prevent someone who was removed from simply signing up again.
Walk location data is kept with the booking it belongs to, so the owner can look back at the route. Messages remain visible to the other person in the conversation even after you close your account, because they are their record of the booking too.
Your rights
- See what we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Correct anything that is wrong. Most of it you can edit yourself in your profile and your pets.
- Withdraw consent, subject to what is written above.
- Ask us to delete your account and the information attached to it.
- Ask why we collected something, and who we shared it with.
If you are in Quebec, Law 25 also gives you the right to receive your information in a portable, structured format, and to ask that information about you stop being distributed or de-indexed in certain circumstances.
To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below. We will answer within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will tell you if there is a legal reason we cannot do what you asked.
Keeping it safe
Your information travels encrypted and is stored encrypted. Access inside TailGo is limited to the people who need it to do their job. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and we never see them.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach happens that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as PIPEDA requires.
Use a password you do not use anywhere else, and tell us immediately if you think someone else has your account.
Children
TailGo is for adults. You must be 18 or older to have an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to keep the site secure. These are necessary for TailGo to work, and blocking them will stop you being able to sign in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you before it takes effect, and where the law requires it we will ask for your consent again.

If we do not resolve your concern, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in Quebec, you can also complain to the Commission d'acces a l'information. We would rather hear from you first, so we get a chance to put it right.
